The three is connected
Stereotype is how you group people (skin colour, sex, age group etc.) and relate it to certain trait (mostly negative)
When you see a person (even for the first time) you tend to group he/she into certain group and then you relate it to any trait within your memory (it relate to your belief which not necessarily true)
And this process occur even when you not realize it (human nature!)
Prejudice is negative attitude toward certain group of people.
Prejudice occur AFTER stereotype
Discrimination is hostile behavior toward certain group of people
Discrimination occur AFTER prejudice
Example,
You see a black skin-person and you relate that African-American are aggressive (stereotype)
Then, you feel hatred or scared of them (prejudice)
Then, you try to stay away from them or even hurt them (discrimination)
Another example,
You hit someone just because he got different skin colour and don't even know him/her!
It is cruel indeed.
To reduce (its hard to prevent!) it,
1. we need to consider that a person is an individual that not belong to any group.
2. put up a goal for all can work together to achieve (one of the application from my earlier post 'Attraction - similarity')
There is more...please self-read
Prejudice and Discrimination is lethal.
It is the cause of genocide (massive killing).
One example, the nazy kill all the jewish during the world war just because, well, they are jew. And in their view, the jewish is the cause of their economy downfall.
Moral: Don't judge a book by it's cover (even though that is what we do ALL the TIME))
